Starting to think I just can’t…..

I have been playing since 2022 and I just can’t break 1000. I am starting to feel like its not going to happen and am feeling myself give up. I don’t know what else to do to and I feel like I have done everything as well as I can to improve. I play mostly longer games (60, 30, 30/20). I do thousands puzzles on Lichess, watched very video content producer you can think of, did Everyone’s First Chess Workbook several times, Logical Chess, game annotations with higher-level players, joined a chess discord server, do the Polgar Puzzles, Step chess program, and tons of other things to improve, but I just feel beaten down.

Study → Practice → Fix → Repeat

This is the framework I use with students I coach.

Maybe try working with a coach. You are trying lots of different things. I think you might just need another perspective.

You said you are using lichess for puzzles. Are you playing games there as well? I notice that your game history on chess.com is very sporadic. It's difficult to make improvement progress if you aren't playing every day.

I play Lichess classical. I also play Lichess 15/10 games. This account is for my chestnut air. I only play games with my board on this. I have another account for the computer. I perform even worse on that one. In the past, I’ve had a coach who has been very good at taking my money.

Except that I have played chess somewhat longer and you've done some things I haven't, I could have written this. I have been distressed enough about it to close more than one account, in hope of achieving a fresh start. But if I make it over 1000 in Rapid, I do not stay there for long. Maybe I am just a lousy player. Although some Forum commentators sh*t on anyone with a rating under 1000, some players at that level are very good and probably most of these are not cheating.

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your previous coach. If you ever want to play a few unrated games, I can review them with you and give you my thoughts as a 1369 rated player. I'm sure you'll get the same offer from some higher rated players as well. If KeSetoKaiba sees this and offers, you should take him up on it.

It's been my personal experience that a breakthrough often comes soon after you think it won't. It's taught me to have a little more patience when trying to achieve goals. I personally think rating is overrated (see what I did) & shouldn't be how chess players define success.

Take a break. Come back refreshed. You may have lost some perspective by driving yourself too hard.

Hey there friend! I agree that you seem to sound tired. I have also felt the frustrations of what you are describing...You are not at your peak skill or rating yet. It is up to you on when you stop this process of improvement but I think it's fine to take a break from it if you aren't having fun.
