Every 4 years someone posts ''this is an old thread'' and then nothing happens for another 4 years.....see you is 2020, where hindsight is....
On a positive note, it could indicate that the game is getting safer.
I was on a First Aid course recently where the approved procedure for removing splinters was described. Picking up a splinter from an old chess piece is a distinct possibility (and arranging for it to happen would be one way of putting your opponent off their game!)
