Forum Hand And Brain

NelsonMoore

Let's play hand and brain!

We need 4 players. We will then pair up

Rules

  • One member of the pair is the hand and one is the brain
  • When it is your turn to move, the brain must select a piece, so one of King, Queen Rook, Bishop, Knight or Pawn. You do not specify which rook, bishop, knight or pawn
  • The hand must make a move using the selected type piece
  • If the brain selects King and castling is legal it is a valid move. It is not a valid Rook move.
  • Similarly a capture is a move by the piece that does the capturing, not the one being captured.
  • The move is made through the diagrams here. You can click on the position, copy the PGN then make your move and paste
  • The time control will be 2 days per move with a 14-day vacation excess. We use calendar dates of the posts for this, so if one team play early Wednesday morning and the next on late Friday night that's still within 2 days, but if they play on Saturday it's 3 days and they lose a day of vacation. If you lose all your days of vacation plus an extra i.e. you lose 15 days, you lose on time. If one member of the pair goes missing for 7 days the other partner may bring in a sub.
  • Opening explorer may be used, but the partnership should not discuss what opening they are planning to play.

First 3 players to sign up will get to play

ImmaturePig

I will play

ImmaturePig

But idk how to make a PGN

NelsonMoore

Little chessboard button

Now click on the sign < under the board where it says Share. Move to the PGN table, select it all and right-click Copy. (Ctrl-A followed by Ctrl-C may work for that).

Then click on the checkerboard sign above (left most icon), copy in the PGN

Then make a move with a piece that was stated. So if your partner said Pawn you must make a pawn move. e.g. g4

ImmaturePig

Ok can I be your partner?

NelsonMoore

we will see who else signs up then it will be highest rated with lowest rated, and two middle-rated partnering each other, and daily rating will be used.

GoldenDegree

I’d like to play.

Ok

NelsonMoore

The lower rated player of each pair chooses whether they want to be the hand or the brain

DrSpudnik

Is something supposed to happen?

NelsonMoore

Are you our 4th player, DrSpudnik?

You need 4 players, 2 partnerships, each partnership has a hand and a brain.

Time control will be 2 days per move with a 14-day vacation excess. So if a partnership doesn't move in 2 days they lose a day of their vacation excess. If all of that runs out they lose the game.

Because chess.com forums don't put exact timestamps on the posts we will go by calendar days. So if the last team played on a Wednesday and the next team plays on a Friday we assume they were within 2 days, if they play on a Saturday we deduct one day from the vacation excess etc.

As I have a 3-day festival period 8th to 10th June that may require my team to use some of that excess.

IF @DrSpudnik is playing then I have the highest of the 4 ratings, then @DrSpudnik, then @ImmaturePig then @GoldenDegree. So I will partner @GoldenDegree and @DrSpudnik will partner @ImmaturePig.

We have to know he's agreed to play first.

The lower rated players choose whether to be the hand or the brain.

Can I play

And what rating are we using?
NelsonMoore

Daily Rating as this is essentially daily chess, i.e. not on a live server and we are giving 2 days a move.

As @DrSpudnik didn't actually say he was playing, you could be the 4th player, and as your rating is 1446 you would be paired with @ImmaturePig who is 1342. @GoldenDegree is 1151.

If that is the pairing it is @ImmaturePig and @GoldenDegree who choose whether to be hand or brain, and I think the pair with the lower average rating should get to be white.

If you are the brain, you pick a piece. If you are the hand, you wait until your partner picks a piece and then you make a move.

GoldenDegree

I can be the brain Nelson.

ImmaturePig

I will be the hand whoever I am with

NelsonMoore

That means @gyrados06 is the brain with @ImmaturePig and you play white, so @gyrados06 has to pick the first piece to move, which must be either a pawn or knight.
