chess is not about making puzzle, having a piece defended it's not always required though it's desirable. By the way if a piece it's defended by another piece, caputring the defender may lead to a loss of material, so you may want to try to protect your pieces with oyur pawns.
Last if you can post an analysis of one of your game it may give people somenthing to work on for helping you.

Buongiorno scrivo dall'italia mi chiamo Christopher Inhaynes e ho notato che le mie più belle vittorie le ho avute muovendo i pezzi come in un puzzle come se giocassi con i lego a fare coi mattoncini un muro indistruttibile i pezzi erano tutti difesi e difesi da altri pezzi mentre avanzavo ma alla fine qualcuno riusciva a farmi scacco matto cosa ne pensate?
ogni suggerimento è molto gradito sono un principiante e ho bisogno di imparare
