Starting to see Exchange Sacrifices more Intuitively! Here I exchange my Rook for a Bishop

By the way time controls was 3 min 2 sec increment. Let me know what you think.

Would it really be a sac if you got a bishop and pawn for the rook? I thought that was at best called "trading down".

XxDarkKnight402xX

Well it still is, I in a sense sacrificed a pawn since I gave up 5 points and only gained 4.

It's a little confusing to me I guess. I don't know why we have "trading down" then if "sacrifice" includes trading down.

White might have been able to hold if he didn't go for Kxc3.

How about a theoretical exchange sac to start the day?

@SNUDOO I have always tried to find a reasoning for the f5 sac and you showed it here perfectly! As a person that plays the closed Sicilian and is still learning it, this helps a lot, great stuff!

B1ZMARK

I actually played the inaccurate Qh5 because I forgot all my botvinnik theory. Be4 first was the correct continuation.

@SNUDOO know where I can learn more about these f5 lines?

B1ZMARK

I have "Closed Sicilian, move by move" (Cartsen Hansen). He covers the Botvinnik structure with Nh3 for white.

@SNUDOO thanks, definitely will look into this!
