31. Rg6+
What could I have done to improve my endgame?
If on move 31. black plays Kh5 why not just play 32. Rh7 checkmate? I was assuming the queen would have to move to f4 to delay checkmate one move. I didnt see your sequence of moves.
You're right. Actually 31.Rg6+ and 32.Rh6 is mate no matter what. I guess I missed that because I had just finished an intense study session and was fatigued. Or else I just had a temporary bout of blindness lol
Technically, 11...f5 is a mistake, not a blunder. it is not that bad, though lost. It is 2 pieces for a rook, but Black's king is horrible, because the a8 knight cannot escape. Also, 14...d5?? 16.fxg6+?? are both blunders. 15.fxe6+ or on move 16 is just crushing. 17.f5?? and it now better for Black, she will get 2 pieces for a rook. From then Black is completely winning. Then 24.Qh6??? this one deserves 3 question marks. Several pieces can take that free queen. 29...Kh5???? now it is mate in 6 for White. Then you missed mate at move 31, but were countless pieces up.
To answer your question, there wasn't really an endgame. First the computer had a bad position out of the opening (i will excuse move 8, that is just a free knight), then it made a big mistake with f5, then you were down a ton of material. You got lucky and it blundered mate, then you missed mate but took a queen. You were up too much material to make any major mistake. You would have to blunder everything to lose. It does not matter much how you play 2-3 pieces up as long as you win- but trading is almost always the best strategy when down material.
end game? pls explain move 24? like a double blunder? was it computer level 6? so he worked very hard not to punish you. gotta say.
Dear all:
My move 8 is actually a trap I learned from a tactical puzzle not a free knight. But the computer response is not what I expected ![]()
My 24th move I tried to sacrifice my queen to advance my g4 and then open 2 files for my connected rooks. Black Queen, Bishop and Knight on the left are trapped and cannot join the defensive force so I thought if I can open up the files aggressively, I can win ![]()
Well, that's your version of it anyway... ![]()

What do you achieve by sacrificing your queen on h6 that you don't achieve with 24.Qf4 or 24.Qe3?
yeah 31.Rg7+ Kh5 32.R1g5+ Kh6 (32... Kh4 33.Rh7#) 33.R5g6+ Kh5 34.Rh6#
31. Rg6+ K moves 32. Rh6# is Mate in Two. Rather than mate in Four.

....
I wondered about that. I did not see it until after it was played. So I went from What?? To Wow!! in seconds.
To me you just hung your queen, I'm afraid. (Although I have no idea why the machine didn't take it.) And honestly, I'm not sure what "cold-bloodedness" has to do with all of this...
Me too. The trap was worth the entrance fee for sure. Having watched Jerry (ChessNetwork) play SF 1 to 8 the material drop engine play seems to end at level 5.
Yes, I agreed about move 24. I was too focus on opening the files as quickly as possible. That was a horrible blunders.
yeah 31.Rg7+ Kh5 32.R1g5+ Kh6 (32... Kh4 33.Rh7#) 33.R5g6+ Kh5 34.Rh6#

Yeah I noticed that in a later post. Also if 31...Kh5 32. Rh7# in my line but after 31.Rg7+ Qf4 delays for one move.
I honestly have no clue how I missed that the first time considering I saw the idea of the bishop supporting the rook on h6 in a 4 move deep calculation but somehow not in a 2 move one. I also know I considered 31.Rh6+ but rejected it for some reason. I guess it happens.
Note: I did not check with engine at all because I was confident enough that after 11.Nc7, the game would be easy for me.
