Bad plan vs. no plan?

I gambited a pawn for pressure against white's kingside. Could white have countered in the center with better moves, or was my choice of a kingside attack valid?

Follow-up question: if black's plan was flawed, where were the errors, and what better moves should have been played?

I also don't like 15. Nb3. I'd rather keep the knight on the kingside in case it is needed for defense, with a move like Nf1 plausible in the future. I don't see black's compensation.

I also feel like the rook would rather be on f8 than e8, as much of black's plan is probably based around the advance of the f pawn. Usually Re8 intends to put pressure on e4, which isn't the case here. Is there anything that is wrong with Ne8 intending f5? Also, a move like Qe7 or Qe8 intending a similar plan while keeping the f8 rook seems natural. And d5!? is interesting, I believe black can equalize. Granted, I don't play this opening from black.
