I have always speculated that The tarrasch is better than the winawer or advance variations (better for white). I think it was about a year ago I found something in chessbase.com about a (at the time) new idea in the tarrasch that created alot of problems for black- more so than in the other variants and that it gives clear adavantage to white. It may be worth looking into. Im not sure if the evaluation has stood the test of time and practice, but then again it is rare to see the french played at the highest levels even without any powerful innovations...
