12 Reasons Why Haters Hate WC GM Magnus Carlsen

RonPaulsSteelBalls
  1. Carlsen is the best.
  2. Carlsen does not memorize computer engines to win.
  3. Carlsen is proof of hard work creating world-class results.
  4. Carlsen will be studied and celebrated for centuries ahead.
  5. Carlsen is overall a swell guy.
  6. Carlsen inspires an entirely new generation of Chess players.
  7. Carlsen is a winner and won the World Championship fair and square. Winning! So much winning. Not tired of winning.
  8. Carlsen make-no-excuses, pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps, Chess legend.
  9. Carlsen will grow even more powerful in the years ahead and prove He is the world's best year after year.
  10. Carlsen > Kasparov, Hikaru, etc
  11. Carlsen works harder than every Chess player alive and therefore deserves every bit of what people call luck.
  12. Carlsen is a valiant warrior in the arena of Chess and life.

Also there is the " Envy Factor " as well. Carlsen became a GM at a very young age. Many people are just out and out jealous that any one person can be that talented, quite simple really.

Anyone who gets banged up from a game of football during the World Championship makes him OK with me.

But he’s no Morphy...

Morphy is my favorite but this game proves Carlsen is as good or far better than Morphy.

Just skimmed that link looking for details on how to use arrogance to your advantage - couldn't find anything. She uses those words but doesn't expand on it angry.png

13. Carlsen has his own style, but haters want him to play like they want instead.

  1. Carlsen is the best.  Currently, yes he is.
  2. Carlsen does not memorize computer engines to win.  This is actually one of his strengths.  he will often play less well known, or what is considered second rate" lines.
  3. Carlsen is proof of hard work creating world-class results.  Hard work always pays off.
  4. Carlsen will be studied and celebrated for centuries ahead.  Just as any other world champion is.
  5. Carlsen is overall a swell guy.  I don't know him, so i cant attest to this.
  6. Carlsen inspires an entirely new generation of Chess players.  As someone who helps tun tournaments, I do not see anyone new playing because of Carlsen.  Now Anand, got an entire country ot play chess.
  7. Carlsen is a winner and won the World Championship fair and square. Winning! So much winning. Not tired of winning.  I do think he is getting to the point that Carlsen is getting tired of being on top.  Its difficult to maintain that level of dominance.
  8. Carlsen make-no-excuses, pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps, Chess legend.  Everyone makes excuses.  Its called being human.
  9. Carlsen will grow even more powerful in the years ahead and prove He is the world's best year after year.  He has been the world champion for something like 5 years, and the #1 player in the world for something like 10 years.  He is getting older, and that does make things harder to maintain.
  10. Carlsen > Kasparov, Hikaru, etc.  I think its safe to say that he has proven his dominance over Naka.  Now as far as Kasparov?  I would think that is still open to debate.
  11. Carlsen works harder than every Chess player alive and therefore deserves every bit of what people call luck.  Unless you know him, and the inner workings of all the top GM's, you're stating opinion.  Luck always plays a factor in things.
  12. Carlsen is a valiant warrior in the arena of Chess and life.  And yet his people skills leave something to be desired at time.  Call it youth, greatness, or something else.  I do not know what else he does in life.

I greatly admire Carlsen, but when one of your reasons is the unknowable, "Carlsen will grow even more powerful in the years ahead and prove He is the world's best year after year," it makes your whole set of arguments seem more subjective and influenced by hero worship than reality.

If you want to convince people of your side of an argument, don't give them such a big way to shoot it down!

That was a great read.  She did not come across as a snot-nosed crybaby to me.

The only thing that makes Carlsen such a powerful chess player is his chess calculating ability (just like a computer) and that is the reason why I don't like him

fabelhaft

”She did not come across as a snot-nosed crybaby to me”

No, the only thing that seemed a bit strange to me was the thing about how Carlsen uses arrogance to his advantage, which was linked to one single action. When he made the hush sign in the confession booth in a winning position, after which he failed to win...

Carlsen is one of the best. Period.

I think we can all agree that Magnus Carlsen is an embarrassment

---   Yes indeed the " Envy Factor " is still alive and well. Btw Carlsen is still the World Champion of Chess ( Yes I said World Champion lol ).
