And speaking of horseshoes, cab:  can you name a prominent bowling/horseshoes champ?

(He was world champion at horseshoes, and a top-ranked bowler for quite a while.)

According to etymology of the word 'sport', you are right. It comes from a latin verb that meant getting outdoor in order to involve oneself in body activities, that is not the case of our beloved game. We could maybe define chess as a sport of brain, and we could then consider as well music, maths etc as sports. Who cares? Chess is chess.

Hey, I've played in outdoor tourneys!

ghost_of_pushwood

It was pretty exhausting too (I had to hold the parasol that whole time).

Thanks for the posts.

You're welcome

Ziryab

It is what it is.

cab still hasn't answered my trivia question... (like any of my questions aren't trivial).

ghost_of_pushwood

Wow, Ziryab sounds like Yahweh! (or maybe that's Popeye).

If it's only the physical activity that makes a sport a sport, then maybe ask: Is thinking not an activity of the brain and is the brain not a physical organ? So thinking is a physical activity.

What then? Is sport only a sport when it involves activity of the muscles? The brain is not a muscle, so maybe there you have it. But still the muscles are involved. hand/eye coordination, stiffening the neck....

ghost_of_pushwood

Speak for yourself!  My brain's a muscle.
