Accusatory note

Sort:

Played a game with a UK player who left a note on my profile: "Another player with a crap tactical rating who plays strong and fast. Hmmm."

Insinuating that something untoward is going on. Though I don't know what that might be.

My name is Al. I live in New Mexico, in the United States. I play a few online games a day. I have a low rating precisely because I play "fast." I tend to move hastily. I make mistakes and lose many games because of it. On the other hand, sometimes I play well. In this case, the player made a mistake and I was able to exploit it. There is nothing suspicious about that: that's chess.

Yea, it's the Internet. People will make any excuse to avoid dealing with losing as their own fault.

Where in New Mexico?

Wanmokewan - Just so, just so.

Monie49 - I divide my time between Deming and Las Cruces, bottom of the state.

Do not pay attention to him, he is a sore loser. The difference between my tactics rating and my rapid rating was a 200 point gap until recently. And I play too fast for rapid, but too slow for blitz and bullet (yeah, I got the worst of both ends).

Just ignore any messages from people. Sometimes people also do this nasty trick when they think they will lose the game they'll start sending you messages asking some question or giving you some comments. They do it to distract you so you'd lose on time or make bad moves. So, I recommend ignoring messages

The FAQ has a useful guide: https://support.chess.com/customer/en/portal/articles/1444877-what-should-i-do-if-another-member-is-rude-or-abusive-

It also mentions reporting people, which you can do via https://support.chess.com/customer/portal/emails/new; please note, when reporting people please do not delete the user note or message they have sent you, as the Support team will do that when they investigate: if it is in chat, please take a screen shot and include the link in your report.

Thanks!

So your name isn't AI, then? Easy mistake to make.

I knew I couldn't be the only one to think that while reading the OP.

Al as in Alfredo or Alfonso, right?

Many years ago I lived in Clovis. It was good for my chess.

Maybe turn off the ability to leave notes on your wall for non-friends?

Well I just disabled chat today, forever and this place is just about chess from now on. Another guy who lost and then blames the lagging internet when he blundered a piece...then telling me "eat me, you suck, you actually think you are good?" etc. etc. It's never ending and it's annoying. Disable chat.  Block people who writes stuff like that on your wall. End of story. Just enjoy chess.

Happy to say that I've encountered very little of the kind of nastiness described in this thread, but I don't doubt it happens. I leave chat on during my games unless the other player starts typing "hurry up" or nasty things, then I just disable and keep playing. Notes on my wall - I've had some unhappy sore loser notes like this one, but nothing rising to the level where I would report them. I have blocked a few people.

well once i was playing someone in bullet, I kept getting the upper hand but lost due to blunder. He started to insult me: you are garbage, stop playing, you suck, you are overated etc.

True I played badly and blundered a lot but that's no excuse for insulting someone. Should have reported him. Happens at least once or twice per week.

At lower ratings trash talk happens often, and in higher levels not many do that. I seriously think that the higher a player goes, the more respect he has for the opponent.

Abbot and Costello, a real classic.
