get them try harder? what you don't think they're trying to win the championship?
people are so immature

Sorry guy but you're gonna have to play in a worse position so we can have tactics and stuff. What? No, the fans will not get on your case about that either. And yes press conferences are manditory. Be a trooper!
As you must know, the two first games of a match like this, always finish in a quick draw.
Both players agree to draw in order to begin to warm engines. The real match gonna
begin next monday.

They probably figured out it would be a draw much before it happened, if they played that line it means that neither of them would have minded a quick draw.

going by today's play, both players were clearly happy with a quick draw
The romans knew how to deal with gladiators that were unwilling to draw blood. They chopped of valued parts or just fed both to the lions. These guys are coach potatoes. Any decent club would ask more bite from their top players. The world is supposed to watch this?
I understand why etc..but with somebody like tal, bronstein or aljechin this would not happen. Carlsen is not living up to his wunderkind image. Sorry, the truth is that they have not played to win.
They are playing to win the match. Because of the format that means playing to win a game, particularly an early game, prior to the tie breaks is a strategic mistake.
Someone joked earlier that they should reduce the prize fund $100k for each draw...but the sad part is that this is exactly what they will end up doing...for the next two world championship players. If this match is exciting, sponsorships will be strong next time, if this match is boring, sponsorship money and interest in chess will drop back down.
So, if I were FIDE, I would actually consider doing exactly what was joked about, reducing the prize fund for each draw, making current players, not future ones, pay the price for timid results...
The terms of the current match are set. They can't alter the prize structure.
No...really? ;)
Thank you, Captain Obvious.

That's not even remotely true :
Recent exemple :
Anand-Gelfand : first 6 games drawn.
Anand-Topalov : Anand lost the first game and won the second and the fourth.
Kramnik-Anand : first 2 games drawn.
Kramnik-Topalov : Kramnik won the first two games.
Kramnik-Leko : Kramnik won the first game.
Kasparov-Kramnik : Kramnik won the second game.
Kasparov-Anand : draws in the first 8 games
Kasparov-Short : Kasparov won the first, third and fourth games.
Kasparov-Karpov :
1990 : Kasparov won the second game
1987 : Karpov won the second game
1986 : Draws in games 1, 2, 3
1985 : Kasparov won the first game.
1984 : Draws in game 1, 2, Karpov won the third game.
Karpov-Korchnoï :
1981 : Karpov won the games 1, 2, 4.
I think I will stop here...
Total : 14 matches.
3 matches where the first two games were drawn.
Fischer - Spassky 1972. Shortest game was 27 moves, but that's because Fischer won. Longest game was 74 moves, Fischer won. 16 games lasted 40 moves or more. Avg moves / game was 45.38 moves/ game. Total game =20. 1 game forfeited.
Clearly Carlsen and Anand don't fight for a win. They are very satisfied with a draw, 25 moves or less.
I am really pissed of how they played. Pls bring back Fischer, Spassky or other former champions who really know how to play.
Carro cann is an opening? I was watching tv that time and Carlsen intended to play sicilian but accidently slipped his c pawn to 6 th rank.
They are just in the phase of figuring each other out, and playing mental games I think. Two draws in the first two rounds are completely acceptable. While in game one I don't think Carlsen played particularly well, and by his own admission he missed a couple things, nobody here is at their level and could remotely understand what they are going through physically and mentally (and don't tell me that it doesn't take anything out of you physically).
I believe that once we hit the mid-way point, the sparks start flying.
What was interesting to me, without having watched round two, was that after the game they kind of sat around discussing the game with each other. I would think that maybe it would give some insight, even small, into their way of thinking to the opponent. It was great to see good sportsmanship like that though.

They are supposed to play the game and make real moves. Discussing game is easy, and leave it to spectators and commentators. They just have to play and make real moves. Or they can discuss and discuss and discuss. They really make me sick.
Yes that is true... it's not a car either...
