Are time increments good?

To be honest, I do not really play regular games with increments. They pros and cons

here are the cons:

  • they take a long time for matchmaking. For example, I played 3|2 games and it look a long time for matchmaking. I’m 750 elo on blitz
  • they give your opponent a fighting chance on the clock. When your opponent is low on time, they can just waste a bunch of moves to gain time on the clock

But there are good things

  • If you are low on time you can gain a couple seconds every move to regain time
  • in early phases such as the opening where you do not really need to think hard, you can stack up on time for the middle and endgame where you can do deep thinking for sacrifices and other tactical plays.

Have you started collecting achievements?

I like to play with increment. Time is still important in 3+2 and a player with much more time will likely win a relatively even position, but increment allows a clearly won position to be won without flagging.
