avoid cheater

ChessRook5T1

Should chess.com make a option that makes someone have to play a certain amount of games before they can play you

like a example would be.. a long time player.. who has played 1000 rapid games.. would like to play someone who has also played 1000 rapid games. Just to avoid possible cheaters ..can you do that already? And if not..can you add that on there?

If you start a club or a tournament those can be options. But otherwise if you are just in the pool, no. However, if someone is caught cheating, you will be reimbursed points

Round_house_kick

i think you can do that

Kuzzii

I know they have that feature for correspondence chess. But yeah, I've had some rapid points given back to me. But they gave me the points a little late and I already played a game after that. When the points got refunded my rating had already changed and I didn't receive my points. You guys know how thats supposed to work?

ChessRook5T1

They have to play 100 games to get points back..

ChessRook5T1

I know they can do that in clubs..but why not normal chess? It’s a good idea..to make sure the cheaters don’t get mixed in with the honest people..or to try to avoid them less

I know that you can have something like that on other client-based servers by allowing you to customize and set a formula with given variables. ie, Rasmir's formula requires: !computer && established && rating >=1600. RIght now, they have a short-hand version of allowing you to change only the incoming/outgoing ratings. It wouldn't be hard to implement if they desired to do so.

thx Justin happy.png also when are you coming back to adult club?

Rasmir

You're welcome grin.png I'm not sure. The current covid protocol makes it difficult for me to enjoy otb chess. Can't observe games, can't sit at a table, can't play pre-tournament blitz. 75% of the reason I play is to enjoy the company of friends. I'd also have to sanitize everything I touch lol.

on a general scale, i dont see how this fixes the problem. cheating will always exist on chess websites. Its not the fault of the staff or devs, its just how it is. there are probably thousands of players who play with engine assist, and u would probably never even realise. Sometimes it's obvious as well.

To be honest the vast majority of ur games won't be against cheaters so luckily a fix like this probably isn't necessary to drastically increase quality of experience.

Your 100% right you can’t fix the mindset of a cheater..but you can try to avoid them..by setting the amount of games..you can try to avoid the cheaters and play those who actually have played for a while and avoid the petty cheaters who recently joined

That's a good idea! It's possible doing the same by simply checking the opponent's profile before playing, but that's annoying.

What did you find out? Is it possible already?

ChessRook5T1

No it is not @Rasmir said they can add it if they want to happy.png

ChessRook5T1

But I think it is.. to avoid newbies (that could possibly be cheaters..which most likely now..they are) and play the players of real strength..not those of the real engine..

I didn't understand well your reply, are you saying it isn't possible? Well, I hope they'll add the option in the future.

Yeah, newbies are often engines. Sometimes, too, they're players with rating of 2000 which are clearly playing the first chess games of their life (but, I'll never understand why, they register as experts).
