TY P2P for your memory of Lisa Lane....her story has been so inspiring !

Harvey_Wallbanger

Irrelevant. Reb has "called you out". And I seconded the motion. Now...shoo!

The_Ghostess_Lola

HEY ! Wait just a second here Harvey. My ode is not....and I repeat not....a dissing. It is quite the opposite.

So knock it off already !

....and that's NM Reb to you....I believe he's earned it.

Harvey_Wallbanger

Reb just scolded you and not me. So, own it.

The_Ghostess_Lola

Yawn and zzzzz, this thread puts me to sleep. Very irrational OP, not worth to debate with. Noticed only one title player (NM Reb) made some comments here, the rest of title players avoid this thread. Not like the other threads where you have a lot title players making comments and debating.

Harvey_Wallbanger

Well, at least this thread did end on a high note.

(slept longer than I meant to....)

Okay.

The 11th Annual Linares Super Tournament was from February 22nd to March 15th, 1993. It was a Category XVIII event.

The players were (in order of ELO): Kasparov (2805), Karpov (2725), Anand (2710), Ivanchuk (2710), Gelfand (2690), Kramnik (2685), Bareev (2670), Shirov (2670), Salov (2660), Kamsky (2655), Yusupov (2645), Timman (2635), Beliavsky (2610), and Ljubojevic (2605).

Despite Nigel Short's absence (he claimed he would take no part in the 'Russian Championship') the field was the strongest ever for an international tournament. GK won the tournament....undefeated.

And BTW, why wouldn't it be the Russian Chess Championship ?....they dominate the game w/ their brilliant play ! Nothing more to say about that issue - now is there.

****

This tournament was held (3) months after BF's win over BS in November 1992.

They begged BF to play in this tournament....and then they begged him again. He very smartly refused. He would have been grossly embarrassed. If he did ?....I think he would've withdrawn early for some kinda flimsy controversial reason.

BF contended that chess had nowhere to go after he stepped away. Oh, was he oh so wrong. And this tournament proves it.

His problem is that he didn't have the creativity to take this game to its next level. It took the Russians to do that (as usual). And bazinga !....did they ever. If this isn't proof that he lacked creativity ?....then I can't help you....I'm sorry. You'll need to seek a professional who deals w/ those ppl bound by the chains of denial. Oh....and get a surgeon who can remove the key you swallowed.

GK and AK and the rest of the Russian Chess Establishment proved it was much much richer than BF could have ever imagined....and the Linares Tournament annuals give pudding proof.

This near-miniature was this particular tournament's brilliancy....and check out AK's move 22 and how his pieces are aligned.

Lola is somewhat right but then there were chess schools in the Ussr then and now and Fischer had to do it all alone. The Russians all conspired against him if they saw the chance.

yureesystem

Lola, you are still asleep or worst you are in denial or your irrational thinking of Fischer lacking creativity without any evidences to prove your case.

Here is Kasparov playing like a patzer in world champion match against Karpov, and Karpov did not take advantage of Garry's blunders and draws in a won game. It take Bobby Fischer to point how Karpov could of won, that is in 1990 and Karpov is still 2730 elo and fifteen years later Karpov cannot overcome Fischer's 2780 elo.

Karpov should of won this game but he lack the technique and the imagination to win this game. It take the great chess genius Fischer to point out the simple win miss by Karpov. It is unbelieveable that Garry being 2800 elo played so bad in the world champion match, he is very very lucky he did not play Fischer because Garry would of lost. :) These two players, Karpov and Kasparov are very lucky  not to play Fischer, because Bobby would of destroy them in a chess game. They couldn't play their bad moves and get away without being punish: Fischer was know to punish players who played poorly or unsound in the opening.

Did you know ?

There is no substantiated evidence to BF's accusations that the Russians were fixing games w/ one another. Zero.

Did you know ?

There is no recorded chess game where it so much as appears that play was 'fixed' to help the Russian side. Not one.

Did you know ?

BF's dashing & daring claim to always-always play for the win doesn't correlate w/ what truly happened in his games in which he drew.

Did you know ?

Playing for a draw in Super GM play is a viable, accepted, and often advantageous strategy.

Did you know ?

Chess is a game where all information is known. You cannot conceal a database of moves. It is 100% truthful. And as a result....

....if you lose, it is 100% your own fault. Yours and yours only. If you win, that may or may not be the case. And most importantly....if you draw, one and/or both sides has decided that that will be the result - except in accidental stalemate....which I don't believe has ever happened in Super GM 'long game' play.

Did you know ?

BF had never been clinically diagnosed with any type of mental or emotional disorder.

Did you know ?

One's Elo Rating is a scorecard that is directly proportional to your opponent's skill level. It is not an absolute figure. It never has been and it never wil be. It is nothing more than a "Relative Thermometer".

Did you know ?

People believe what they want to believe....regardless of the truth. And that the more something is truthful the less they want to believe it. It's your emotions in full bloom.

Harley-Rebel

you guys brought all this on yourselves.

Is this thread real? I can't believe I just read the first 10 and the last 20 pages. Robert James Fischer lacked creativity? Unfortunately, the OP lacks a broken keyboard :'( -------------- but I applaud her (?) will to continue the circus work despite all the tomatoes thrown at it. That takes courage and a strong mentality. But I suggest using it for better things. Why is Fischer the single most hated player ever? People are horrible. I don't know but it's the first time I see somebody attacking his chess and not his personality. Confused :S

Poor Bobby

While there is no absolute and conclusive evidence of collusion and while there are both corroborative testimonies and refutations to those testimonies, there is, however, statistical indications strongly suggesting that the Soviets in fact colluded.

As this study concluded: "Thus, the finding that the Soviets were more likely to draw among themselves in critical FIDE tournaments than when playing other masters should not come as a surprise, but our paper has been the first to provide strong statistical evidence in support of this result."
