can a weight loss diet harm your chess?

i mean could it be that you really have difficult doing puzzles that you think are easy because you are on a diet?

Not if it's a healthy diet. If it's not it could harm a lot of things.

Assume you mean a low carb type diet? In which case I think fatigue & possible dehydration might be an additional factor at a high level. Doubt it would affect your average club player though.

Yes, it certainly could be because you're on a diet.  It would depend on the diet and whether you are depriving yourself too much.  A sensible weight loss regime is to aim for losing 1 to 2 pounds per week, no more.

ps.  If you're trying to improve your clarity of thought, try to work in some 'aerobic exercise' (improved blood circulation is very helpful for brainpower).

Thx a lot, i was planning on doing way more exercise.. will swimming and walking also do?

well i wasnt healthy before that, i just miss obvious things and sometiems i feel lethargic while solving puzzle... yeah its low carb i think... at least its low calorie...

Conflagration_Planet

Any diet that makes you feel lethargic isn't healthy, and won't work over the long term.

For the record this kind of diet makes me feel more mentally alert not less.

Agree about the exercise (the more brief and intense the better, swimming is great though).

...the main thing is managing your weight via exercise and diet...no magic pill exists...and keep on managing your self, since it is far easier to prevent than cure...

...on the subject at hand, of course it is...that is why quality is important...
