I was playing blitz ( I'm  530,highest elo is 630) and I got paired up with a guy in 1235 in rapid

For massive rating differences like that, I used to try and avoid them whenever possible, but then I realized something. Lots of players are much higher in one time control than another, but they can still be really bad at that other time control.

It's possible someone could be 1200 rapid with more time to think, but 500 blitz because they play much worse when rushed. In fact, lots of these players mean that you can outplay them in time pressure because they have less experience there!

The chess.com pairing system is really good. I've also encountered players much higher rated and then after the game realize they were on a tilting session and losing streak... which also makes it more likely for me to win. All of these factors are in your favor. Just play the games and focus less about your opponent and their rating and more on your game. GothamChess and many others even play better when they DON'T know their opponent's rating:

Your opponent's rapid rating would not be used in a blitz game matching.

I assume that you are complaining about the one game you lost today. Your opponent has not played a rapid game in more than a year.

They should take into consideration their other ratings

Why? A player good in Rapid can be a lot worse in Blitz, even if the the rapid rating was based on a sufficient number of recent games. Looking at your opponent's stats, their Blitz rating is accurate.

I play 90% of games in tournaments for this reason. I like being matched with people several hundred elo higher than me. When playing the same elo over and over I find the games seem repetitive because at certain ratings it seems like half the players are trying to copy and paste the exact same traps and strategies. My current elo is 80% people trying to create a pre clicked defensive barricade for 6 moves then they castle and don’t know what to do but try and keep putting pieces in front of the corner the king is in. People with a bit higher elo have more layers to tack on to that strategy but people my level stall out there and crumble .

Okay let presume he does have an advantage with a 1200+ rapid rating over a much lower rated blitz player. How is the advantage going to show up? If he hasn't played blitz in awhile then with his advantage he should win a good amount of his games until he reaches his new true blitz rating. As he climbs in rating he will start to lose more games until it evens out. If you were one of the earlier players this may take place. But this did not take place. Your game was his 368th blitz game of 3/2 with various other blitz time controls prior. You were fairly matched with someone with a true blitz rating. Of the last 50 games he played he won 25 and lost 25. No, his higher rapid rating has no bearing on your loss.

If you are both rated the same in blitz it’s a fair pairing

Let's say there is a 200 blitz playing 3|2

He is 2500 in rapid

His opponent is also 200 in blitz

But 200 in rapid

Tell me this is a "fair" game

Please post an example of such a player

I doubt there is one.

Well not exactly that rating but I played against a 1500 rapid during blitz and I'm 800 rapid
