Chess for angry high-strung people?

Sounds like the poor guy just lost the Immortal Game.

CalamityChristie

good one Andy! Laughing

Angry, high strung people don't normally have the patience to play chess very well. If you beat them, I am sure the fall out it would cause, would be another obstacle for them, in trying to belovedly embrace this game and the others who play it. They wouldn't normally ever get good either, can you see one of them trying to take constructive critism?

CalamityChristie

exactly!!

i'm a fekkin useless player anyway ya big fat plonker!!

If anything this site has shown that intelligence does not correlate with chess.

Perhaps it just shows that intelligence does not correlate with internet?

Despite the many many threads showing that intelligence correlates with chess.

No sarcasm there at all!

I am never sarcastic.  It is neither helpful nor nice!

Who likes to be defeated? In chess luck is off, and when we lose it feels like we are stupid and our opponent smarter than us. People are inclined to refuse this assumption, and we think guy who just checkmated us are lucky moron, not smart guy. It is the natural instinct of self-defence that's where this anger comes from. To me it's understandable reaction, and I'm not even psychologist :)

AndyClifton

Yeah, you're definitely not psychologist.

It's the American way to express disagreement or just insult without arguments? I think my explanation was close enough to human psychoanalysis, though it sounds a bit like a cruel true.

nameno1had

In all fairness to everyone, I really hate how we most often can't disagree without it always being an insult of someone's intelligence...I mean in perception, not intent...

AndyClifton

Unfortunately it's starting to sound a bit like one of those IQ threads (and I was so hoping that we'd come at last to look on that link as being a bit tenuous).

So as not to take any chances I assume everyone on the site is a dumb-idiot & thick-as-two-short-planks unless they convince me otherwise.

AndyClifton

Actually, that's not so bad (it's those tests he sends you that are the real insulting part).

netzach

Think they issue those tests to keep people busy & calm them down. (In case they get zany-ideas about grabbing a firearm & heading to the nearest mall)

Living Chess is a better format for angry people... you can try to strangle the enemy Pawns when you capture one.

I go from the other angle until they prove me otherwise...I find it much better in life to assume everyone might be smarter than I am...if they turn out to be, they will atleast think of me as smarter than I perhaps I am and I didn't insult anyone's intelligence. If they turn out to be not so sharp, I didn't hurt their self esteem...I find this especially helpful with older people and authority figures...I end up in less trouble
