Chess Tournament Prize Fund Question

Sort:
GameTheoryOptimal

I'm planning on going to a chess tournament soon. The description of the tournament includes this statement:

Cash Prizes 1st-$150 2nd- $75 each section. Prizes based on 8 players per class

Does this mean the prize may go up or down depending on the number of entrants?

Perhaps its based on ranking of each player? Not sure. I'm sure someone on here is, though :)

Well, I know how classes work. But what if only6 people are in my class? Or maybe 12 are?

I had no doubt you didn't ;) Is there contact info available for you to contact the TD to ask questions?

Based on prizes can be decreased if the number of entries is not met. It is proportional to the number of entries.

Oh, and if 8 players are in your class, then the full amount will be paid.

You planning on going to the MO Class Championships this weekend, or some other tourney?

Yup, that's the one! How'd you know? Searched for the description I mentioned?

Thanks, btw

So does that mean the prize could go up as well?

Sometimes prize funds go up but that's less likely. With the event in St. Louis most of the classes will likely have plenty of players, though I can't guarantee anything.

I was actually planning on playing the same event but my games have been sucking the last few weeks so I decided against the cost (mainly hotel costs).
