Coming back to chess after a long break, what openings should I use
Basically, I used to play chess like everyday on Rapid 15|10 and somewhere in between I kinda lost interest in the game and stopped playing for a while.

I used to be always play The Italian opening with white and I went for the fried liver, but that stuff's old now and I need to learn actual openings now. With black I usually play e5 or the French Defense in response to , Grand Prix for Sicillian and some exchange variation for Caro-Kahn. I don't really have a good inventory of openings really

I need refine my middlegames and endgames as well but I'd rather start with the opening because I lose most of the advantage right off the bat in most of my games.

For white use Italian game or ruy Lopez or 4 knights game or center game. For black do French defense or scandivian or England gambit

The Hippo

Who is the hippo and what do you mean?

Avatar of thereturnofthesnowfox

The hippo is an opening where you fianchetto both of your bishops, don't advance your pawns past the third rank early on, and develop your knights behind the pawns.
In short, you lie in the swamp like a hippo, not directly challenging your opponent's centre in the opening.
