Hi everyone,

Do you use any chemical substances to help you play chess? No matter if it is while playing for fun, or also in more serious matches. (I am also interested in the use of alcohol, chess or caffeine)

I sometimes use caffeine and alcohol (together, at the same time). I took your poll.

Trying out adderall would be cool, but I don't think I could get it legally and I'm not interested enough to do something illicit.

I'd say it depends on the time control, if the games are rated or casual, and how long the playing session is. If I drink anything stronger than coffee, I can count on dealing with a caffeine crash when the game matters most.

very small amounts of psilocybin.

Water has the opposite effect for me. I seem to play best when I'm dehydrated.

helps with creativity and overall neuroplasticity of an old brain like mine

oxygen certainly helps

For OTB, I drink this.

Hydrochloric acid.

(Everyone has this at the start of the game of course)

Stargazer1633

Oxygen. Keeps me working all day.

Please don't be mean. This was meant as a serious question...

The most common one is coffee, but it may turn out either way.

Sometimes mint-flavour sweets may do the trick.
