I once said to a master strength player who was teaching me that I feel like the difference between my best day and my worst day was 200 points. He said more like 500 points, and this applies to almost anyone. Of course I can't prove he's right, but it's interesting that he said so--I didn't expect him to. I know for a fact (experimentally verified) that I play much worse right after I wake up in the morning. I feel that I'm fine and ready, but in fact I will hang pieces and make other blunders quite routinely. Late at night I apparently am settled down and play much better. This is not even close. So yeah, I think it happens to everyone.
Does everyone have days when they play terribly??

When I think about it, a 500 point differential sounds about right for myself, too. I've looked back on my games and it's seemed like it was someone else entirely who was playing--in good and in bad ways.

I am exactly the same. I simply play much worse in the morning. It's not even worth me trying to play a game before 2PM.
I've only just started learning to play chess. But I think it's normal for everyone to have good days and bad days. I only play against my chess machine, and when I win a game, I take a photo of the checkmate. When I have a bad day, I look at my winning photos to boost my morale again. I find that really helpful!
I have really terrible days... In a tournament, I lost to somebody in a winning position (up a knight) who was 200 points above me (nswjcl) then i lost to some on 100 points below me
