Drawn Positions

In the stalemate game you of course were completely winning and could reasonably expect your opponent to resign...but you blundered stalemate fully justifying his decision to play on. You could have mated in a handful of moves but you lost concentration and wasted your previous efforts. That's a flaw in you as a chess player to lose focus like that and a strength of your opponent as a player to set up one last trick in what should have been a hopeless position.

Right - At 19 (adult) he was already 1700. That means he played the game as a kid. I'm talking about people who started playing it in their 20's, 30's, or beyond...like me. To a developed brain, much of the game seems extremely pointless, boring, and unnecessary lol. No way are any of us devoting ourselves to pursuing a title.

And again: To me - that's very immature, petty, and point blank stupid. Sorry but ...that's not the type of game I want to put time and effort into. I'll find something better. I mean, this game is so stupid that I honestly feel absolutely nothing when I win. The game literally means nothing.

Don't play then...why did you even start the game?
I shouldn't have. Lesson learned. The fact that people refuse to resign in dead lost positions is enough of a reason for me to not play. I could NEVER not cause an issue with someone OTB if they did that. There would absolutely be an encounter. I just can't stand that personality type and it's definitely for the best if I avoid it.

You could have given checkmate in 5 moves in a quite aesthetically pleasing way, but you messed it up like a patzer. And that's your opponents fault? He is in control of his moves, you are in control of yours. Give the pretty checkmate and show him why he should have resigned.

I just don't see any point in doing so. I literally feel nothing when I do checkmate someone like that. Just like I wasted my time doing something degenerative and need to go take a shower. Dead truth.
I could obviously easily progress from the point I'm at now but I just don't have the desire whatsoever. That happens with a lot of things. This game is just so boring and pointless that I don't care how good I could get because it means nothing to me. I don't see how anyone could really have a strong desire to get good at this. Hire a coach, read books, spend money traveling to tournaments? Uh...absolutely not.

Yes yes a waste of time blah blah...6 hours ago you started this thread...has it been a busy day for you with all the productive and worthwhile activities you have undertaken?

Yes. Playing against these personality types absolutely ruined my day and I'll make sure it doesn't ever happen again. I'm just going to always strongly discourage any other adults from spending time on this. Chess is hot garbage the way it is.
I believe that the skill of staying focused and not getting “bored” in dead drawn endgames is an important one. The chance that your opponent doesn’t have that skill justifies you to try to press for an advantage.
It definitely takes a unique sort to be that anal and meticulous with your opponent. Chess is absolutely not for most people. Kids? Yes. Adults? You never see one become a titled player and this is why. The game, at it's core, sucks.
