Yeah, you're welcome for the explanations given to you that you are completely unthankful for. That ends my patience very quickly.
An unrated player is one who hasn't had enough games yet to give them a valid rating. They could be masters or complete n00bs. You can't tell.
If you resign, you can expect to lose rating. Duh.
If you can't cope with that, then by all means, go away and stop wasting everyone's time with your endless complaining about losing rating points when you lose games.
Utterly wrong here!!! I just lost to an 'unrated' player, whose rating is now 1345! after beating in our first game. wtf? I resigned from his 2 remaining games after seeing his 'new' rating, to see he is now ratrd aMASSIVE 1441, he won 1 game and gets to 1441 that neatly 100 point increase for being lucky to win just 1 game? I've lost a total of 9 points???? This is playing chess and fun?? Some people are making Idiots out of others. and it's not FAIR PLAY!!! If this is the case I'm going to DELETE my account, end of. Thanks but no thanks Chess. Com
Go read what borgqueen wrote in post #20.
The purpose of chess games isn't to store up points. If you want to improve, that's great, but the rating only shadows your real playing strength. Try to learn from your games and only take a peek at your rating every few weeks or months. This is how to improve. Obsessing over rating points (especially game to game) is completely useless.
Boo hoo. Why don't you go out and get yourself a real problem instead of trying to get the hi score or whatever you think you're doing?
DramaQueen, your advice is to set my challenges at +/- 50 points, that is all!
If you want to be stupid carry on!
My argument, point now is having looked closely at the members I'm now playing a number of them are 'unrated' BUT considerably better players than myself D'oh!!! How can this be not only 'fun' but fair? Only asking only want a reasonable answer, if you want to bitch please don't bother replying thanks but no thanks.
Do they have unrated games ? (Like against the computer)
Who cares about rating points ? Unless you are a master or better (you can have mine if you like).
How old are you Leftnotleft ? It is just a game, play longer/ lower rated games so you will have fun. You can also select not to play unrated players (I think).
People will be a lot less likely to help you if they perceive that you aren't listening to their advice and being argumentive, and insulting them on top of it. Would you like to be treated like that ? No you wouldn't so calmly explain your problem and listen to their advice. If you don't agree with it, thank them anyway, don't get angry about it. Take 3-4 deep breathes there is a solution to your problem. Good luck.
The guy has only completed 3 games.
Everyone starts as unrated. The jumps in rating are quite huge to begin with. This guy could lose his next 3 games and go from 1441 to under 1100, depending on who he lost to.
This works both ways as well. A player could be unrated but actually 800 strength. It's pot luck when playing an unrated player. Most of them probably don't know how strong they are.
[COMMENT DELETED, inexplicably]
The video was far nicer and more helpful than anything else in this thread (excepting BorgQueen's patient attempts to suggest logic) so I'll post it again and see what happens.
Account I now being deleted that (please, no name calling)!
Wafflemaster, I play to win, I question losing quite a few games that is all!
Then set your rating search filter to -1000 / -500.
You won't progress, you won't probably even get a higher rating, if your level is what I guess it to be you will not even find anyone in that search window, but you will get what you want.
Now stop complaining and read the doc about the rating system.
