flagging : Is it unethical or part of the game

Do you guys have any other dirty chess tricks you want to share with me on this thread? Flagging is one of them.

TheCalculatorKid

Yeah, dirty tricks only really work in bullet. In blitz the amount of flags massively decreases, in rapid even more so.

The_economist9

I never seen flagging happen in rapid before. I think it is more common in bullet and short blitz games.

TheCalculatorKid

I've flagged 2 people in rapid. It's because most people who play rapid see 2 minutes as time pressure, so they take like 20 seconds a move and don't go into bullet mode.

The_economist9

Hahahahaha yeah lol, its pretty rare to flag players in rapid. I definitely see it happening a lot in bullet/blitz.

It was a drawn position tho. Oh well

Lol. Have you ever flagged anyone in daily games?

TheCalculatorKid

Problem with blitz is, a lot of "bullet tactics" don't work. Like at a high level in bullet, there's kind of an understanding that both players will premove their opening, which is normally a book opening, and then the mid game starts about 12/13 moves in. You just can't do that in blitz.

well you can't really do that unless you count them forgetting the game and just running out of time lol

NobleElevator

but if you count winning games by timeout for daily, then yes

Yeah true, although in blitz towards the end game I think flagging does come back again.

TheCalculatorKid

I'm blitz, I'd say almost every game is won by checkmate.

Yeah true, I gotta agree that checkmate is probably the best way to win. Flagging is more of a problem if your opponent is slow and then loses on time.

NobleElevator

@thecalculatorkid I just realized we played 2 games of bullet a long time ago tongue.png

TheCalculatorKid

Just seen that, you won both games. Bet they were on time haha

TheCalculatorKid

Just seen I was a 1200 player back then, wow that's some time ago.

NobleElevator

Yes

TheCalculatorKid

I definitely didn't understand bullet back then. I've stopped bullet for a bit, need to get my slow game better. Once my daily and rapid are at 1700 I'm gonna do a bullet push for 2000

Flagging is like legal cheating happy.png

TheCalculatorKid

Not legal cheating. Its genuinely part of the game. If you agree to a time constraint you agree to finish the game within those constraints.

sndeww

that's why it's legal
