wollyhood... have read quite a few of your post now and am sorry you have bad experience... but... there can be a large difference between genuine abuse and banter. Guys take the P out of each other as well?

Seems like there is a new generation of young girls learning and playing chess more than ever before!!

As long as they have equal opportunity to play... that is the priority? 

Point is kids can be very cruel... doesn't mean somebody has to go through life with a large chip on shoulder and a revenge attitude. 

mm no this was awful, i can't even approach to say it but it's the kind of thing racist american marines would say out in the desert where no one can hear them.

the post I'm talking about in the main thread in question is now gone, but I am concerned that it took 3 days to be removed after at least 2 complaints by people like myself.

Yeah, note the way Hammer would seem plausible... then somewhere innocuous he would slip in that females were genetic inferior or something. 

Guys in a group can quickly take a pack Mentality...

I know right, such huge leaps by saying things like... "we have to face facts so we have to say that women are inferior at chess yada yada.. no i wouldn't ever say this to an individual ( just an entire chatroom made up of individuals)." it got pretty tragic and I think the main problem with his rants was that they were not only negative but completely off the core premise of the OP; I know I meander around in circles also, but fundamentally I try to return to the path eventually and think this batch of females in chess threads are about looking at the barriers keeping women from enjoying chess, a massive one being lack of female companionship in the arena, a secondary one being guys attaching too many emotions and judgements to the playing of women and girls, by the sounds of it.

So what can WE consider to create an environment that might be freer of constraints rather than stacked against the woman player.

No matter how small these barriers might seem to male players; if they do not exist for the girls and women then it is still something we should consider how possible they are to remove.

Not because men and women are necessarily equal chess players but because we want to see more women in chess / keep more women in chess, and then one plus side could be that everyone might be able to be proud that they are not creating needless invisible obstacles so that the results can be more truly accurate.
