Higher tactics rating

cyboo
I was recently given a free membership (platinum), so I have only been doing tactics while I can (1 month only!). Now my tactics rating is higher than my blitz, bullet, rapid or daily, and I’m wondering, when I start playing live games again, (I have stopped now to focus on the unlimited tactics trainer), will I just like boom be able to spot tactics easier? What does the tactics rating actually mean? Is it related to your chess? It should be, right? Or else it should influence your chess, right? Anyone know the answer?

Me too.

Tactics rating is only a number.

Do tactics is easier than play live... You don't have time pressure, opponent pressure, and a puzzle are only few moves, is not a complete game...

Ok...

I think the tactics you do allow you to spot, long term, quicker some tactical pattern. So in a game you'll either find similar tactics and save valuable time or it will just help you (in longer rapids or correspondance) to better select candidate moves.
But to see some real result wait until the end of the month.

Tactic ratings are often hundreds of points higher than other ratings. You can do tactics for free on other sites so if I were you I would use the platinum membership for other stuff like endgame drills and Chess Mentor.

Tactics rating is just a number used to categorize the difficulty in the puzzles, nothing more. Solving those puzzles will improve your calculation skill, if you take your time to search for the best moves, and it will improve you ability to spot patterns that may contain tactical opportunities.

2151 tactics right here, where's my CM title???

But yeah, tactics rating is waaay inflated.

My tactics float between 1500 and 1650. My goal is to get to 1700. I'm hoping the result will be 1200 bullet, 1450 blitz, and 1500 standard. We shall see...

I guess it's not called chess mentor anymore but I'm talking about the interactive chess lessons. Click on the "Learn" tab and then click on "Lessons". I don't know if it's available on the app.

Yes, you do as many tactics as you want for free on lichess and chesstempo.

Ok thanks,
madratter7

The tactics on chesstempo are handled differently. I find that the tactics here and there compliment each other. I do standard and chesstempo (untimed), and the tactics here (timed). There are two timed options at chesstempo as well.

Tactics is a great help in your game, but the rating in tactics does not equal to your regular rating. I have a tactics rating of 2500+ but my blitz rating is just 2100+.

Well .. fail. I got over 1700 in tactics. I have noticed some small improvements in my play. I am finding tactics that a week ago I would have missed for sure. However, in bullet, I'm losing lots of games on time. Overall, I haven't been playing at the strength that I was hoping I would be. So, so far, I'm going to agree with people who say that improving the tactics rating is nice for the ego but it doesn't necessarily improve your play on it's own.

Ok, thanks for the real life experiment!
