I often asked the same question. I think someone once said its too serious to be a game, and not serious enough for the amount of time it requires most people to be good or addicted. As its been said before, I think that people who never really know the beauty or depth of chess are missing something. But feel the same way about mathematics and different kinds of literature as well. People are just missing out, and often when you tell them this, they just roll their eyes, and say "whatever." It must have something to do with a hard wired proclivity in the brain, but then that doesn't say much at all either.
How come chess is FAR from one of the most popular mobile games on iOS or android??

Some people find the concentration required to be more like work than fun. Some find having to think about a move for more than 30 seconds to be boring.
Look at the number of college students who do "Mickey Mouse Majors" that are not likely to pay well rather than put in the very hard work required for the better-paying STEM Majors.

I think those other games are a lot different - even in a different class of games altogether.
From a visual aspect, they have better graphics and are dynamic. They also have elements of chance, and more social interaction, and also use hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
Those games are not for purists interested in games of "perfect information" with no chance events. Chess is a game of mind against mind. Win or lose you can't blame it on anything except your own analytical thinking. So chess is not for everyone - just for us "critical thinkers".😊
Manyyyy other strategy games and stuff like pokemon go get all the attention.
Why do you think this is?
thanks for your opinions?
