I know somebody from a nearby chess club that did it. He is a very experienced chess player and it took him a long time, he said. I think once you reach the high 2000's the puzzles don't get any harder, so it's just a matter of patience and getting a higher proportion of them correct.
how hard is it to get 3000 rated in puzzles?

at 2800 they really do get harder

I thought the 'puzzle rating' topped off at about 2800, or even around 2750. That's about the highest rated puzzle I've seen.

in terms of difficulty maybe i do think they get much harder though because ive watched hikaru solve some at his level and even he was taking a long time

I really don't guess until I'm sure I know the move or I've completely exhausted myself trying. Sometimes I spend 10 minutes or more on a puzzle. Haven't done any for a while, though. I hate when I miss one after I have it figured out and then somehow still play a move that isn't what I wanted to play.

Actually, the puzzles on this website disgust me sometimes. The ratings are all messed up, and you can't even vote on what the puzzle's theme is anymore. Did you notice that change?

the puzzles here are definitely messed up

They go much higher. I rarely get puzzles as *low* as 2800. The highest puzzle I got this week was 3400, and the lowest was 2900.

Everything about chess is messed up. People could benefit the world more by choosing almost any other hobby, but it's a neurotic status obsession... It glorifies a certain type of intellect and a conquest mentality; it embodies everything that is antisocial and destructive of healthy relationships between human beings.

Hmmmm

The bottom line to puzzle rating is that it means very little. In fact its counterproductive, because its an inefficient use of time. You could do other things that would serve you better to increase your chess skill.
The type of puzzle you mainly want to solve is those which are relatively easy, so you learn the most common patterns, the ones you need in blitz and bullet games, and they become second nature to you over time and you can instantly recognize them in slower time controls, too. Because these basic patterns occur all the time in games.
Spending a lot of time on one of these higher rated puzzle producing a result thats completely unique to that puzzle and will never occur in a real game of yours trains your ability to calculate, but thats all. Its really a high time investment for little return. Not that you should completely stop doing it, but you shouldnt focus too much on it. Once you learned to calculate this way, you may want to spent your time on things like learning openings, learning endgames, and learning advanced chess principles from studying master games.
Many GMs are not actually that great at solving puzzles, compared to the best of the best, and the specialists who are the fastest at solving puzzles arent the best chessplayers.
i have a high of 2891 but im currently stuck in 2700~
