🤔
How prestigious is chess in your circles?
I played chess in High School in the late 1960s, and then I went to school in California, and put the chess set away, because, you know, there were girls and studies and girls and beer and girls.... yeah, basically, I didn't want to seem like a nerd and hurt my chances with the girls. But then, in 1972, Fischer won the World Championship, and suddenly Chess was not only prestigious.... it was Cool! So I'd play chess in the quad after lunch and impress the girls.
Of course, after about a year of chess being "cool," the mania died down, but it was great while it lasted.
