How to make opponent´s move audible?

Gyro-Gearloose

Besides that I´m completely lost on chess.com.

If you play on the website, there is a sound switch in the board settings:

OK. Sound is on. But how to make it louder then or change the sound to something better recognizable for me. I know how to get different sounds from the internet. Is it a wave-file to be replaced or what can I do? I couln´t even find an eassily accessable  suppport site for chess.com. It was (16th July) my first day here. I´m playing on a windows PC. I´m quite used to windows. I´m a native speaker of German. I found the support site in the meantime and sent chess.com an email.

If you don’t like the default sounds, you can go to settings/themes and select a different theme.

Or you can select the custom theme and then select a different sound type. If you want to keep the same board and piece types/colors.

I think the Marble sound is bolder than the default.

Gyro-Gearloose

Thx. In order to follow your advice i´d have to find out what "theme" would be in German. So far my interface (menus) is in German, although I´ve chosen English as language. I´d prefer English for many reasons. But how can I get that? I´m still trying.

manekapa

Did you click the orange save button at the bottom of the page?

Those language settings affect the website and not the apps.

Gyro-Gearloose

I did not. Thank you. Got it now in English. First step. I am at "theme" now. Can I hear a sample of the many sounds offered? It´s just plain text, so far

manekapa

You would have to open one of your games and play through it to hear the piece move sounds.

Gyro-Gearloose

Thank you. You were quite helpful.

Greetings from Germany.

You’re welcome.

You could just about do this yourself with a Raspberry Pi, a camera facing the board, a blank speech module and a program to interpret chess graphics (there are, after all, only six different kinds of pieces and 64 squares).  That way, you could import any voice you wanted.  For my first month of trying this, I would like to have Eartha Kitt announcing moves to me.
