How to Reassess Your Chess fourth edition: perhaps more people would participate in a club?

  • #1

I tried to make a club to study HTRYC, third edition, but things are not going that well there. There are some members, but the discussion is very slow, sometimes nothing going on for days.

I really want to work with this book. Perhaps with the fourth edition more people would participate? I mean, it is more fun to discuss things in a group. The idea is to go through the whole book, trying to keep the group motivated to go on reading / working. It is not about which is the only move in this position, it is more about talking about the training, how we do, if the moves are logic or not, if we had similar positions in our own games or from other books.

Somebody interested? My experience until now with such clubs was not exhilarating. I would like at least one person to regularly exchange ideas with me, at a daily basis, or at least every second day.

I heard an interview with an Indian IM who said he worked very hard with HRYC, and this (together with videos by Daniel King) helped him to get his title. Okay, I don't have any talent and aspirations to get that strong, but I wont to understand better the game, and if through this I will win more games, well, why not.

I started working on the chapter and got sidetracked this weekend with personal issues. I plan on posting tomorrow and can certainly aim for a daily or every other day post. Don't loose hope, this a great idea, I will work with which ever edition you choose, though the 4th may be more popular.

    Great, thanks

I decided to start a study group in the fourth edition on HTRYC in the website Chessable. You can register there for free.

We will meet there in the case that nobody else wants to join us here. I will keep the club on the third edition only in the case that at least one more person join us there, otherwise I will close it.

I would have sporadic involvement with a HTRYC#4 discussion if it happens at chess.com.

Okay, not bad. I just sent to you the invitation for both groups. But somehow people are not participating every day, I don't know why. For me this kind of project we have to participate regularly, otherwise it doesn't work. See you there!

I have not seen a link for the HTRYC#4 discussion.

Is this instead of or as well as the "Simple Chess" discussion?

I am interested.  I already read How to Reassess Your Chess as well as The Amateur's Mind, but I would be cool reading them again and discussing them here.

You are welcome. We still have to figure out how often we will discuss there; I have the tendency to contribute every day, but there are not many people ready to discuss on a regular basis, from what I can saw until now. I am working regularly with chess, even if I am rather weak. Openings and endgames I am studying in another website 166 days - I only missed one day there, but only because I spend time training with another website.

I study everyday myself so I am pretty responsive.
