apparently so, yrral.

i have used the "special" method eric speaks of. but, it's been years. and, only if the other player has acted like an a$$.

as far as forcing another to mate you, eric is right (and i wonder if this is what the op might be referencing). can you do it? it is an important question if opponents are 1400 or less.

just read some of the forums. "can you mate with x + y?"

i had a guy tell me i could not mate him with king and rook vs. king.

I have heard of Nakamura doing those with bishops, but I have never learnt the idea for six bishops (though I am aware of the basic 2 bishops checkmate endgame).

I am only capable of launching a checkmate with knights alone, but not bishops alone (without the assistance of the friendly king).

As for the guy who does not believe in a king and rook checkmate vs king endgame, he probably thought that the job could only be done with a queen and not a rook.

In all the 1 day games that TheCalculatorKid has lost, he has resigned. Just to remind him - resigning is bad sportsmanship, it denies the victor a checkmate they have worked towards.

I totally agree, however in my experience if I don't resign a losing position in a daily game, I'm unlikely to be granted a rematch.

I dont care, you can checkmate me.

You can promote every pawn.

You can capture every piece.

I ain't resigning ever.

POOR SPORT!

If you don't resign while I am six pawns up...

I will launch a checkmate in a "special way" with the six pawns.

This encourages the player to play on for 2 reasons

1) you are no longer seeking optimal moves so the chances of you blundering a stalemate dramatically increase.

2) it is interesting to see how the game unfolds.

So by all means, continue this tactic.

Fight to the bitter end ! .........who knows, you might be able to force a stalemate, or cause your opponent to run out of time .

There is always the chance your opponents PC or phone will freeze.
