Yea, I'd still study the 4 and a half minutes a day I'm currently at eh lol. Serious.
If ratings didn't exist, would you still study and play chess as much as you do?
I don't study anyways. I dont beieve in ratings. On greats days im 2000+ and on bad days im 1500+. !Ratings are overrated
Interesting question.
Knowing that I have not the drive, time, or likely the aptitude to become truly great, my only realistic goal in chess was to be able to sit down at a board and not embarass myself completely. Against a weaker player, I'd hope to kick @$$; against a stronger player, I'd expect to lose, but hopefully not look like a complete idiot. Do ratings help or hurt with this goal in mind?
I sustained aa 2000+ rating for the better haf of a year and my internet went down whie i had over 30 games in progress. i ost every1 on time knocking my rating below 1700.i managed to get it back to1900 but it happened again. ever since ive given up on maintaining a high rating
Connor your rating is 1901
It should be around 1850 ... a lot of my oppenents timed out or left the site during games :(
@kco ... u made me look
Now if avatars did'nt exist then...that's a different question..
Then i would leave the site.
i kid u not my onine statistics said i had 40 something% timeouts. truly a travesty
Thats what romeo said to juliet
No, i know that higher rating is one factor that make me play more chess and be more competitve. It also for sure makes the chess level higher, as people are trying to research for more theory and see more moves forward to get better.
The first modern rating system wasn't used until about 1939 and Chess players did okay before the rating system started. I would have no problem adjusting to have no rating. I would play for the love of the game...
Okay, but they had ways of telling who was the best. While it may not have been numbers, it still would have been a rating system. Without it, there would be no WCC.
Chess was probably more fun and mysterious before ratings and computers, but there is no putting the genie back in the bottle.
