in a 20 game rapid match, who do you got?

King343

Magnus vs. Maurice

it would be an interesting match....Maurice having greater chess understanding than Magnus, but Magnus being the better practical player

i fully admit that Magnus is the better practical player, but Maurice has greater understanding of chess, chess structures etc.

All Maurice Ashley does is repeat engine output.

gingerninja2003

When Maurice talks about stuff on his commentary's 90%+ of it has either come from, or been assisted by an engine. Magnus finds 100% of his moves on the board (that isn't opening preparation) without the help of an engine.

Your view about Maurice understanding more about chess than Carlsen is just plain wrong. There's a reason Magnus is the number one in the world at classical, rapid and blitz.

Kasparov is not Maurice Ashley.

King343

i get laughed at when i compare Maurice to Magnus but not when i compare Garry to Magnus

Laskersnephew

I can't remember the OP's former names, but this dweeb has been trolling here for several years, under one name or another. Desperate need for attention

Carlsen would still win vs Kasparov though, Carlsen is the best in the world is because he is good in all aspects of the game. Even Kasparov in his prime would lose to the current Carlsen.

In rapid, nothing can beat Carlsen. People here worship Nakamura as a blitz god, but Carlsen is actually quite a bit better. Terrifying, right?

Laskersnephew

Gee, when I compare the world champion to a fairly weak* GM, who hasn't played any serious chess in years, people laugh, But when I compare him to a former world champion, considered by some to be the greatest player of all time, they don't laugh. I wonder why.

*No disrespect to Maurice. Obtaining the GM title is a tremendous achievement. I only mean "weak" compared to the world's best

ghost_of_pushwood

To tell the truth, I've been laughing throughout this. happy.png

King343

why is this thread mocked

Maurice understands chess like an engine, do you see his commentary

just cause he has greater understanding than Magnus doesn't mean he is the better practical player

Laskersnephew

"Chess understanding" You keep using that phrase. I don't think it means what you think it means

ghost_of_pushwood

Now there's an ironic thought.
