Is blitz chess the most popular on chess.com?

Blitz chess rating is valued the highest on chess.com. So I am wondering if blitz chess on chess.com is the most popular live chess game? If that's the case, which time citing will be the most popular? (i.e. 2|1 minutes, 3 minutes, 5minutes, or 10 minutes).

Also in comparison to blitz chess, which type of chess game(rapid, bullet, daily) would come to second in terms of popularity.

Thanks!

I won a blitz game the other day.  it was set for 10 minutes.

I’d think bullet is equally popular or perhaps even more popular than blitz. It seems when talking about ratings a lot are based on bullet.

2|1 is bullet. That being said I judge almost everyone by there best rating but it depends on how manny games they have played in it. For example your blitz is 2012 but since it’s only one game I don’t take it seriously at all and you don’t have any other games played on this site so basically I view you as unrated.

& I just looked at it and your one game is a joke, idk if dude was being serious but he had a complete advantage, missed a hanging queen and left his queen hanging. Lol. 😂

Blitz is probably the most popular still. The following is from last year but 10|0, 5|0 and 3|0 were the vast majority of games.

1:0 is the most popular online, you can always find a 1:0 game in seconds.  People like it because it's fast, adrenaline-packed and they are usually vs a pure human and not an alien or some other entity.  At the chess club 5:0 is probably the most popular, followed by 3:0.

Far more players play blitz. It seems bullet players may play quite a lot on average. One reason for the fast pick-up of challenges (which is certainly my experience) is that the games are so short: you would need five times as many players playing 3 2 to get as quick matches. Another factor is there is more variety of blitz speeds (3 0, 3 2 and 5 0 are probably the most popular. Bullet seems to be mainly 1 0).

In addition, speed of matches depends a lot on where you are in the distribution of ratings: near the the extremes (especially the top) there are not going to be many players near your rating. My bullet rank is more mediocre, so there are relatively more players near my rating.

Anyhow, to be more precise about the number of players, blitz ranks are out of 4.3 million players, but bullet ranks are out of only 1.1 million. So a LOT more players play blitz.

you are right elroch. 1:0 is not the most popular, but it is the lowest wait time!  grin.png  I wonder what the most popular is for players above 2000 though

I am 2000+ in both bullet/blitz. I know that 1 min bullet is easier to match than blitz. Wait time ( 2 to 6 secs in average)

Yes, that would be primarily the effect of the length of games.   Interestingly, there is almost exactly the same proportion of players in the 2000-2100 range  for blitz (0.4%) as bullet (0.41%).

I like to play 60|0 rapid games. Sometimes it is very difficult to find an opponent.

Not surprising. With such time controls, it is probably best to join a group with organised competitions and matches and to agree the time of a match in advance.
