How does a good memory help you calculate or evaluate chess positions?

I wouldnt say "memory" but being able to have an "overlay" onto the actual board is a good skill to have. It's how you "calculate" without physically moving the pieces around. In a bullet/rapid/blitz timed game being able to do this as fast as possible is an advantage.
