I wasn't playing with increments
Is it possible to cheat?
I was wondering if it's actually possible to cheat on chess.com?
I just played a guy whose timer was running out and suddenly it kept jumping back up every time he made a move so he couldn't run out of time. I'm just playing basic 5 min game so it's not normal to get extra time.

AviaSharma: I don't want to cheat! I just wondered if my opponent was (it felt like it...) I hate it when people play unsportingly just to win points.
Thanks all. I'm fairly sure it's not a lag issue as my connection was 'excellent', and the counter would go down until my opponent moved, then would go back up again, as though gaining a small increment. If it was lagging then it would be my timer affected, no?
In any case, it's annoying, but to avoid further confusion, I am asking whether it's possible for you opponent to cheat: I would never do so myself - very poor form. ![]()
As mentioned, it is lag compensation. Not based on your connection, necessarily, but your opponent's. It could also be a short disconnect, based on the sudden reversal of times.
