The two most dehumanizing contrivances created by man are Social Media and the Myers-Briggs Test. I won't be a part of it.

P.S. BronsteinPawn, this is where you should point out my hypocrisy.

But to actually answer the question, there MUST be something to the idea of a serious chess player "type". For one thing, I see something in the chess community also see in the amateur astronomy community... an odd mix of Intellectuals and psuedo-intellectuals or wannabe intellectuals.

One thing I love about chess is that it is purely a democratic meritocracy.  How many complete fools have I met who present themselves as masterminds because they inherited enough money to buy the latest, most expensive astronomy toys, having flunked algebra while insisting Jesus rode a dinosaur. You don't see that in chess. The metrics don't lie. Your abilities are measurable and a matter of public record,

In chess, glory is won only by hard work. I rank quite high in both I.Q. and education, but as a chess player, I stink and the only thing that will change that fact is hard work. No matter how smart or educated some-one is, they'll have their ass handed to them by any dedicated kid, and that's a good thing.

    I'm rambling. Cheers everyone!

    I'd suggest "rational". I don't think I accept Myers-Briggs.
