Is www.chess.com is bancrupt!?

Sort:
AWARDCHESS

Today, 18 of  the June  2008, I was unabled to login and do anything at the site 55 minutes.

Yesterday morning a few hours it was a connection problems.

The days before it were freguently same problems with just that website.

What's up!?

Is the Company is a Bancrupt, deaf, or  technically silly to manage the business with Respect of the clients and partners?

I'd say this was funny, but too many people might actually think you're serious.  At least put a wink emoticon at the bottom. Laughing

If you didn't know, they have been working on the site, trying to improve it.  When you see that it is slow, you can either bank that the server is being heavily used, or that they are performing some maintenance on the site.
AWARDCHESS
They must improve the site without any distractions and disconections!

well Im sure If you bring any problems you have to eriks attention he would address it..... but if you were looking to complain thats ok too.Cry

I never have all that many problems, which begs the question, did you pay your ISP?

Chess.com is now bankrupt and will be closing down forever as of June 19th, 2008. Thank you all for being here while it lasted :(

Kidding! So... AWARDCHESS, since you are new here I admit that yes, you have seen the worst of it. We have had a particularly bad week where there were some enormously bad database issues. It isn't a hardware issue, its a growth issue. The fact is that Chess.com is growing so fast and at the same time adding so many features. So we had some massive hiccups this week with the database. We are working day and night to re-tune our database queries to be more efficient. It's an amazingly painful process. What makes it so hard is that we have just built a powerful and complex website where you can track stuff, post tons of kinds of content, play unlimited games, read so much content... all of the interaction is costly in terms of database interactions. And when you add that to the crazy growth we've seen (now being the most popular chess site on the internet), it all adds up. The worst is behind us now as we have spent all of today cranking hard on query tuning, and we will be spending the entire day tomorrow working on more database optimization with one of the best MySQL database consultants in the world.

Anyway, long story short = I'm VERY sorry about the frustration. Trust me - when Chess.com is having problems, I lose years off of my life. Seriously. It's like having one of my children in the emergency room.

Thanks for your patience!

I like the website www.chess.com!Tongue out

And it was really not good feeling, when I has 250 games at the progress, and big registration at my new organised chess tournaments, and I cannot log on to do, what I like to do!..

So, I just wanna be sure, that the Company know, there is a big competition at the online chess world!

Hire the better computer specialists! Or our fun double joke can became true...

Lol.  For a 'beta' site I'd have to say this is a rather incrediblely consistent site.

oh btw erik... you're nuts :P.

Chess.com is the most popular chess site on the web?  Last I heard it was still third.  Congratulations, Erik!  You've been up for just over a year, right?

I am now proud to be a member of the largest chess site on the web.  I think that makes me a certified geek, although not as much as Erik and co., who designed the largest chess site on the web.  Tongue out

erik
hehe. thanks. yes, if you look at alexa or compete, we have the most daily visitors.
Evil_Homer
74% of all statistics are made up! 52% of people know that.

It isn't a hardware issue, its a growth issue.

Remember that ad (maybe for IBM consulting?) -- Scene, a little start-up net company, all three or four groovy employees huddled anxiously around a  monitor as they bring their website live and await their first order -- will it ever come?... wait... wait.. and it comes... Yay! Then another and yet another! ALRIGHT! ... High fives and cheers all around... then the counter registers a sudden 5, then 25, *gulp* 500... the counter is spinning madly and the webpreneurs stare in growing horror...my god, my god, what are we going to do??? ...

That ad hitting a little close to home there, Erik?WinkTongue out

Pffft! My hunch tells me that chess.com is not the most popular chess website. I still see the same names here even if member numbers are rising. playchess.com (a related site to chessbase.de) and/or Internet chess club must be more popular!

In saying that, chess.com is probably the most popular ''1 move a day'' chess website and certainly the best in that field for sure! (so i aint making shots against chess.com!)

If anything, chess.com is in its best shape now than ever before and we should be grateful for that. Congrats to Erik and his team on the site and no, i dont think or believe that chess.com is bankrupt, far from it in fact! However, i do think things could move along abit quicker here. Isint live chess still ''beta'' and there doesnt seem to be like, umm.... a GM associated with chess.com. Basically, i mean that there is no particular GM that seems to be really really involved with the site be it playing turn based, live or answering members questions related to chess etc. I can see this happening soon tho i think, so, smiles all around!

erik

see for yourself :) i said "website", nothing more :) there are servers with more people playing on them, but they don't get at many daily visitors.

click here to compare web traffic of Chess.com

also, we do have some titled players. but no, no ONE MAIN Chess.com GM. you are correct. i'm waiting for that person to appear :)
