NFL v2

  • #1

Seeing as the other thread got locked, I'm starting a new one. Need to get my opinions in before the lock.

Y'all are advocating forced patriotism. The EXACT thing that made North Korea North Korea. Including a crazy dictator, but we have Congress to keep his tiny hands off the nuclear buttons. We have the freedom to express our feelings. And protests don't exactly work if they don't annoy you. Marches are meant to get your attention so you can say "Oh hey, that's a (good/bad) idea!" Also, because they kneel during the anthem doesn't mean you are disrespecting the military. If you protest march, are you disrespecting traffic? Cars? Ford? Honda?

This whole kneeling thing started last year, and nobody cared until Trump called it out to distract from Puerto Rico.

Just comes to show how easily conservatives can be brainwashed.

Are you really that desperate for points?

I stand with the players, and sit with the players, and kneel with the players.  The protest was and is about racial justice, but the President and the owners said they were insulting the military and insulting the flag.  The President even called the players "SOBs", which makes it personal and is also not a very smart move on his part, because some of the women around him, notably his wife, are also vulnerable to inquiry.  I wonder what Melania did for a living here when she was fresh off the boat from Slovenia?  I know this thread is doomed, but I'm the kind of guy who tells folks where I stand when I have the opportunity.

Well, if you're blocking traffic when you march, then yes.

But anyway, conservative libertarian here. I agree that the whole Trump going after the NFL thing is stupid. Personally I don't care what anyone does during the national anthem - it's just free expression, which, by the way, is something that the left has largely abandoned. Conservatives should have taken the opportunity to become the side that is for free speech, but this whole anthem business isn't helping the cause.

But was it the point of the march?

No, but it is a real consequence of it. If you organize a march where you block traffic, then whatever the goals of the match are, you're affecting the everyday lives of a lot of people. It's not comparable to kneeling for the anthem, unless you're kneeling in the middle of the street.

You may be affecting it, but you aren't disrespecting it.

If you ask me, NFL players care more about the country than the POTUS does. Why? Because they are attempting to fix something in the country.

"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable."  J.F.K.

I'm with the players. There's never been a protest that was effective that didn't piss somebody off. And judging from my Facebook feed, this protest has pissed off the exact group that needs to hear it.

superman0101, if you decide to create a v3 of this thread, I suggest you do it in the Off Topic forum.
