I don't think so, maybe if you had a USCF account, and got to 2200 but I don't know if an indian citizen can even get a uscf membership. Good question!

Does it matter if the rating comes from chess.com or does it have to be in actual competitions?

Guys. I'm not sure if you'll even be reading this since it's been 10 years. But you dont have to get a 2200 uscf rating. It can also be a FIDE rating as uscf said that it will still count. I'm not ure youll even want the NM title at that point since reaching 2200 FIDE already gives you the CM title. SO you can get the National Master title through Fide just by then It'll be useless as you've already unlocked a higher title. Hope this helps?
