my question is this...since when has chess become all about knocking other players on the forums instead of helping them?i grew up around players always willing to help us lower rated players...but not once was any player slammed because of his rating etc...maybe chess has changed...devolved in some way
People protecting 1300 ratings are hilarious

There are plenty of trolls on the forums (a lot of talk isn't even about chess). But now and then a titled player (or other strong player) will give detailed analysis or suggestions to someone asking for help. Usually when someone posts one of their games with a little analysis and asks for feedback.
What are they thinking? that they are going to somehow make it in chess someday? I meet a lot of people in the 1300-1400 bracket who when having the slighter rating advantage (so slight that if they lose they lose 9 points instead of 8) they refuse to play, that's hilarious. I can understand a guy who's in the top echelons of chess rating being ''protective'' about their ratings, but people with shitty ratings protecting their ratings for no gain whatsoever is just pathetic and funny to me.
When a person no longer cares about improving, I think this is an understandable way to behave. I imagine it can happen at any rating.
Someone says a 1300 rating is shitty, but not to someone with a lower rating. One thing about chess is that people who play also like to win or else they would quit. The 1100 chess player is probably just as good as a 1300 player, but the 1100 player is on a losing streak. Next day he might be 1300 again.

By your logic, or the 1100 player is a 900 player who has just come off a winning streak

Well said! Note that a lot of who are newbies to the site may also be a little overzealous and overambitious. That's ok - let them be that way, just try to guide them to the light.
The thread should be focused on telling 1300 players to focus on how well they're playing, not what their rating is.
It's not chess that's devolved - unless you consider the introduction of powerful engines to the game to be that (which arguably, it could be), but it's the internet
strange to think...when i started playing rated otb tourneys all i wanted was to be a 1200...then i broke 1400...aaaaand i left chess for 12years approximately as i had to start working...started socialising more and forgot about chess...or so i thought haha now...i would love to hit 1600 otb...consistently playing at that level...after that i suppose 1800 will be my aim...1800 is the level it seems where players start being respected in the world...but to 1300 players...well done...there are many 1100s wishing to be in your shoes...as 1300s are envious of 1500s etc☺
If you play 5 minute games all the time going from 1300+ to 1100 is common, I find. 900 would be pretty bad for me anyway, but you get into one of those winning streaks and it's good. Everyone loses once in awhile or else we would all be 2800. I wonder if chess is more memory than concentration.
agreed, 1300 is a joke on this site
But according to you, you can go from 1300 to 2100 in 10 days by studying 1 move tactics?
One move tactics to beat a 2000 player is all you need - avoid hanging pieces and take hanging pieces

So if I can somehow only play people rated 2000 I can catapult all the way up to the top!
Not just play 2000 players. You have to play 2000 players and not hang pieces, and take hanging pieces

Wish I was white that game. I think my best win in blitz is like 1790. A 2000 hanging a Queen is a gift

nah nah now that's too much I don't think I can do such a feat! Not hang pieces? Who does that in chess anywayz?
