I recently played a chess game against ChatGPT , and while it was an interesting experience, I encountered several issues with illegal moves on its part. Despite that, after repeatedly correcting its errors, I was able to win easily.
I'm rated between 700-1000, so I wasn't expecting a super-strong opponent, but I was surprised by the number of incorrect moves ChatGPT made. It often tried to make moves that were impossible (such as capturing with pieces it no longer had or moving to squares it couldn’t legally reach). After multiple corrections, the game proceeded more smoothly, and I secured a victory.
Game Summary:
Opening: I played 1. e4, and ChatGPT responded with e5.
The game followed a standard Four Knights setup before transitioning into an aggressive middlegame.
ChatGPT attempted illegal moves multiple times, including trying to move a nonexistent queen and recapture pieces it had already moved away.
After much back-and-forth correcting these errors, I ultimately checkmated it with Qxb8#.
