Math isn't ONLY problem solving.To be good in math you also need to have natural talent, intuition and immagination, and you can't acquire these things playing chess.
unless you do math while waiting on your opponent's move.
i think strong concepts and base with being confident and open to making mistakes and experimenting in maths is the way to becoming more imaginative and better.
