@JBrady- Do you see the icon for "Insert image" next to the "B I | A" edit tools on the toolbar? I'd start there if you were serious about selling your set here. Otherwise, maybe Craiglist would be more convenient (ie, local) for you. Good luck.

Hi Bg42 - who is Chumley? I bought the exact same set when I served in Nam (bought it in Thailand). Would like to sell my set.
There is a new law in the USA governing ivory imports and exports that make it extremely difficult to buy or sell ivory, regardless of its age or intended usage. An assemblyman in New York state wants a ban on all ivory sales in that state, without exception.This is going to make it a lot harder to buy or sell antique ivory sets in the USA.
An exerpt from the New York Times: "...it will prohibit exports except for certified antiques. Sales of elephant ivory across state lines will be prohibited, unless the ivory is demonstrably more than 100 years old. And ivory sales will be prohibited within a state unless the seller can demonstrate that the ivory was lawfully imported before 1990, the year after the signing of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, a United Nations agreement known as Cites. The burden of proof of purchase will fall on the seller, and sales will require rigorous documentation. People can still own ivory and pass heirlooms to descendants."

The League of American Orchestras has managed to have the law modified for musical instruments. Other groups are banding together to try get amendments for other reasons.

I have a Chess set actually 2 from Malawi that I brought back in the early 80's. I can prove from my passport when I went there. How do I sell it? I saw on Christies a high estimate was 1200.00 for a similar one,

Hi, I am new here and do not really know much about chess but a set was passed down to me from my grandfather and would like to sell it.
From what he told me it was bought by a US soldier in Taiwan during the Vietnam war at a second hand store and then he bought it from that soldier at an army base back in the US. The set is likely early to mid 1900s but I do not know much about it other than it is ivory.
The set is not in perfect condition, but it is in good condition. If you would like pictures of the set I can send them via text, my number is 832-922-2899.
Anyone intersted please let me know! I would perfer to sell locally because the pieces are very delicate and I would not trust the mailing service to take good care of it.
