I used to have an awful time with Black. In a typical 5-round tournament I'd be 2-1 or 2-0 with White and 0-2 or 1-2 with Black.
My problem was that I thought good defensive moves would be enough to get me to a playable middle game. They are NOT. You have to make threatening moves and you have to be thinking about how you might attack in the middle game after you get your pieces developed. For example, in the Caro-Kann and French Defenses -especially the advance variations, you often need to play ...c5 relatively early and attack Queen-side if you want any chance of winning.
Look at my record here and you'll see I have a very slightly BETTER record with Black than with White - scoring over 60% of the possible points with each color. That is ONLY because I know you have to be cautiously AGGRESSIVE with the Black pieces!
you can't give advanced advice for beginner's. btw I still struggle with black maybe I should follow you to watch how you play with black attack from the beginning. and you should've been a 1600 1800 player by now with all the opening names... just saying.
