Ramping up with Sigma Chess 6.2.1

I am using Sigma Chess 6.2.1 on Mac OS X. I really like the program.

To get started learning chess, I selected "Novice" as the "Playing Mode & Level."

From there, I started at Novice/level 0 (Easiest) and worked my way up to Novice/level 8 (Best). My approach was to move up a level in difficulty only when I had beaten a level using both colors.

I have now beaten level 8 and I'm not sure where to go from here. Which setting would be considered the next incremental increase in difficulty? I'd like to keep slowly progressing my game. I want to continue to take baby steps. I don't think I learn as much if the computer destroys me every single time.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Since posting this I have learned that I can play a scored game. I set the computer at 1,200 ELO and it has waxed me ever since.

Does Sigma Chess offer any difficulty levels in between Novice/8 and 1,200 ELO?

Thanks!

I don't think there's a way with Sigma to do that but as an alternative you can try the trial version of Shredder Classic 4 for Mac which plays under 1200 and is quite beatable for a novice/beginner (speaking as one).

I just wanted to say thanks for the reply. I'll check out Shredder Classic 4.

Since my last posting I managed my first draw (playing white pieces) against Sigma Chess at 1,200 ELO. My ELO score even went up one point.

Maybe I'm improving?
