Rapid ratings are inflated by A LOT

I can tell just by feel. I'm not playing any better than before and yet my rating is going up. My opponents don't feel as challenging as they used to. I took a break from chess and I haven't really been studying at all.

Chess.com should fix this.

How.

They've done rating adjustments in the past, surely they can bump a few players up and lower some others.

So… they should go through their 60 million players, and selectively choose to boost some people’s rating over others?

Yes. The method is to pick a certain threshold and adjust everyone above that and below

What would be said criteria? I’ve noticed you have increased your rapid rating by about 50(?) points since you started playing again. I have seen others do the same and drop back down by themselves. How would they know the difference between a temporary streak and an actual increase in playing strength? In any case, if you have truly improved by a significant amount, you will easily win games until you meet those around your level.

I've noticed that my rapid rating just doesn't reflect my play at all (pretty high). Maybe it's due to me not playing rapid often enough, though.

I can tell by feel. I just won a game while reading and writing this thread. I used to struggle to keep my rating and every game was a battle. Now it doesn't feel as hard.

Maybe you have just gotten better, or maybe it is a temporary thing. I have seen people perform a 100 point increase in a day, keep it for two, and lose 100 after that. In any case it is too early to draw any conclusions, so I think it would be inappropriate for chess.com to intervene.

You've barely played Rapid since March and you're surprised you're better?
