Well, it is true Fischer wouldn’t defend his WC.  Psychologically speaking, he had issues. But he didn’t care about anything except chess.  He was better than Kasparov, and therefore would’ve beaten Karpov.

you know, these days they have meds for the children.  Fischer would be on those meds if he were a child today.

Pretty much everybody has some form of psychological issue.  Fischer was nuts.  As far as who was better?  All any of us can do is offer an opinion.  Which doesnt make it truth.

Agreed... opinion is fine... but when you have somebody rated 13k in online CORRESPONDENCE Chess... flatly declaring that quote... well Fischer was better than Kasparov... so he would have beaten Karpov... kool aid needed.

Look... nobody can dispute RJF was amongst the very best players ever... but let's flip things a little? RJF was and remains the only WC not to defence his title... his conduct as champion was disgraceful... no tournament matches, no exhibition match, no simulation... no heed to his fans... paranoia and seclusion. Yes, he have issues... but he was sane enough to give fide demand after demand... and they repeatedly gave way... until he demands champion odds, equivalent to a two game cushion... and say he ain't playing until he gets them. People forget what a Beast prime Karpov was... when asked he modestly said RJF would have been favourite... but his chance was maybe 40%... a fair estimate.

Remember, if RJF had returned... some point... to play Karpov and Kasparov... Chess would have become a phenomenon. Better than Rocky IV?!

Of course he did return... to play Spasky in a meaningless expo match... funded by a corrupt arms dealer?! Dissappear again... a 15mil offer from Gothic Chess... Karpov will get his chance... both well by their prime, but still huge intrest... but no... RJF has to go and Die... of a curable illness?!

Am understanding he is US hero... but by most account this was a fairly nasty, horrible person, with a Huge Ego... who said nasty, Nasty things about his own country, with racial overtones.

Who was... one of the best Chess players ever.

Boris Spassky was asked "Which is better, chess or sex?" and he replied "It depends on the position".
